In 2008, during the construction of our home, I stepped in as the general contractor midway through the process. I quickly learned how to find, interview, negotiate with, and manage contractors—overseeing every detail from light switches to paint colors, cabinetry, and finishes. Eleven months later, we moved in, and I walked away with invaluable experience in home construction and design.
